Hospital and Telephone Triage Training Videos
Learn the fundamentals of triage protocols to ensure that the patient is triaged quickly and to the right place for the best form of treatment.
Course Introduction
In the first section, we look at how the course works and how you access the modules. We also give an introduction to the subject of triage and what to expect.
What is Triage?
In this section, we answer the question of what is triage and we look at the goals of triage. It is important to keep good records and we discuss electronic patient records and what you need to do. We also look at what discriminators are and how we triage correctly. Being aware of Health and Wellbeing in the triage workplace is important to recognise and be aware of and finally, we look at your first impression.
Triage in the Medical Setting
In the Triage in the Medical Setting section, we look at many different subjects including the ABCDE approach and triage. We also look at how important it is to listen carefully to the patient and how you can assess the pain they are in. Making sure you understand the patient needs is an important part of triage and we look at active listening and other things you need to do and include like the ABCDE approach in triage, assessing pain, analgesia in triage, NEWS2 and many other subjects. We also look at mental health issues.
Clinical Observations
Clinical observations are an important part of triage and in this section, we look at the main observations you will take in the triage role. These include penlight torches, blood pressure, pulse, pulse oximetry, blood sugar testing and temperature. We also look at interpreting these results.
Triage Example Scenarios
In this section, we look at lots of different scenarios acted out in different conditions you may come across and we then tell you a debrief of what was done and why. We include many different illnesses, injuries and conditions.
Telephone Triage
Telephone triage is similar to face to face triage but it is harder as you can only talk to the patient not do any actual observations. In this section, you will see a variety of telephone triage scenarios and how they are handled.
Course Summary
In this section we look at how to review the course content, take your course test and print your certificate, evidenced-based learning statement and Certified CPD statement.
